Interdisciplinary Treatment Planning

The Global Diagnosis System

Facially generated treatment planning emphasizes the position of the maxillary central incisors, and the Global Diagnosis system takes this one step further by emphasizing the etiology of abnormal gingival anatomy. Once the etiology is determined, there are only a limited number of treatment options to correct the discrepancy. That is the power of the system: The diagnosis leads to the treatment plan. This completely overhauled second edition is based on the same five CORE questions of the first edition but includes a sixth: Is maxillary hypoplasia present? It welcomes 11 new authors and 16 new chapters, highlighting the use of sophisticated orthodontic, orthopedic, plastic surgery, otolaryngologic, and orthognathic strategies to resolve anatomical irregularities impacting smile design, function, and health. Airway-aware and airway-directed treatment planning is a particular focus, as well as the importance of early intervention in children to redirect aberrant growth as early as possible.
